Evalution Questions For The Final Product

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

My magazine represents the social groups associated with the genre of fashion in a quite stereotypical way. Because as you can see the cover lines and main cover lines revolve around issues in the fashion world as in what to wear and solutions for every seasons. Also who want to follow such as a 'Famous Fashion Figure' all these represents the fashion world in a stereotypical way, that fashion is all about your cloths, about your beauty and lifestyle. Another social group being represented is the upper and middle class and my main image strongly represents this because the magazine is completely based on top designers collection and activities that happening around the town about fashion. And everyone in Pakistan which is an issue because the lower classes do not have much resources to buy designer cloths from designers or from brands, so they spend money on fashion magazine to copy that designs. However my target audience is upper class, so they feel anxious about the monthly issues of the magazine. All they want to know is what is happening around the town or what is going to be in coming days regarding fashion like launch of a new shop or of a new collection by any designer and readers also follow the articles like celebrity talks and interviews (stuff like that). My model also represents a young girl who is in her 2Os and this shows that magazine is for girls in between 15 till 3Oth age. And it also include some space (articles) like boys too. The ethnic minority also represented are the ones who are interested in designer attire as in Pakistan more then 5O% people are not able to buy designer cloths but still designer and brand wear gaining more recognition in Pakistan day by day.

The font sizes and types i have used are quite similar to the ones we see in vogue, it also have codes and conventions of an adult fashion magazine which gives it the delicate look. Three types of fonts i have used here as you can see vogue also have similar layout like the my product.

In my content page i got my inspiration from Fashion magazine. Although i brought forward the fonts i used in my front cover to create continuity.

¨For my double spread page i have placed interview of the model whose picture is at the cover page because shes (on the rise) and i used plain white background and the text colors used is black. at the left side side page all the text is located , on the right side theirs the image of the model whose interview in being placed with 2 columns. I have used a font which was somehow similar to those of the cover and content although they could be different. But this helped me in creating continuity.

         2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My magazine is targeting to people from teen to adult specifically but it can reach up to the people who love to follow fashion too. Secondly my target audience should be aware of the recent fashion icons and should be using social media.I also created a facebook page as many famous magazines also have one. And I also created a google questionnaire to see whether people like the magazine or not. Most of the responses i got were very positive.
           Distribution for my final product,
           Internationally:
Hearst Corporation - Hearst is one of the nation’s largest diversified media, information and services companies with more than 360 businesses. Its major interests include ownership 15 daily and 34 weekly newspapers such as the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle and Albany Times Union, more than 300 magazines around the world including Cosmopolitan, ELLE,Harper’s BAZAAR etc;ownership in cabl television networks such as A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime and ESPN; majority ownership of global ratings agency Fitch Group;  digital services businesses such as iCrossing and KUBRA; and investments in emerging digital and video companies such as Complex, BuzzFeed, VICE and AwesomenessTV.

Hearst would be a great option if i want to publish my magazine internationally as hearst already is known for publishing Women and Teen magazine. It has been publishing seventeen since 1944 so  this will come as an advantage for my magazine, Plus it publishes the most famous magazines so it will also help in making my magazine a well recognized one.
          Locally,
I have chosen the The Dawn media group to distribute my magazine as it already has many magazines being distributed in Pakistan. The Dawn media group covers three areas, print media (organised as a separate division called Dawn group of Newspapers) , broadcast media , and internet media. Being one of the largest media companies in Pakistan , i will be able to target a major audience. The Dawn media group is a large media company with their foothold in many areas of the media industry also with a well reputed name familiar to the audience.  And Dawn media group have not published any of Fashion magazine yet so they will be able to publish my magazine and it will be beneficial for them too. Through this it will be able for me to cater a huge audience at Pakistan. Therefore they will be interested in distributing my magazine in such as inside shopping mall and clothing stores and at your doorsteps too. Their will be an economical price of the magazine which has to be paid by every reader. The sole purpose of this magazine is to serve the female audience living in Pakistan more or less does follow some of the norms of the society , I live in when it concerns the cloths of the female.

         3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

At the beginning it was very confusing yet overwhelming as it required alot of time and effort. I had learned alot and progressed along. From working over and over again to come up with a desirable product was a very difficult yet it taught me how and where should what font, image or sentence be used. Explaining everything we do - fonts selection, image selection then also providing proof including screenshots, pictures whether it be photoshop or just some research. Most importantly keeping a check on each and every minor detail ; whether the font is creating continuity, whether the image is edited neatly
           etc.
This product taught me alot about camera work and lights as i made alot of mistakes but i learnt through them. I learnt about ISO, Shutter speed, lighting and keeping all the elements in mind i ended up creating the final product.

        4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

Throughout the coursework, I used software in order to design and creaet my magazine components (  front cover page , content page and double page spread ). I used Adobe Photoshop C6 ( 2015 edition ) in order to design my magazine product, which is example of integration of software. I integrated Photoshop into my entire production aspect of the coursework, as i used it for creating mastheads, layout and mock-ups and the final product. Photoshop is a industry level software used by multiple institutions who utilise all its benefits to make professional magazines. I was able to have access to this software and i found the tools very easy to use once and i have done enough research for photoshop that how to use it. Overall it helped alot to me immensely with the production aspect of the coursework. It was not so easy to use this software, I watched lots of tutorials that aimed me how to use this software.

I did not used variety of Hardware to create my final product, but one notable hardware was the canon 60d. i used for taking photographs of the model who were portraying the characters in my magazine. i customised the setting of the product based on the type of weather conditions so that i could get better amount of lighting so i could get high quality images. some of the shoot was done at sunlight and the other was done under roof with artifical lights. the use of camera was so important because i needed it to make the images for the product.

Throughout the coursework, I highly integrated the use of online websites to present my coursework. I used blogger as the blog to  present my coursework because it has a wide range of  very different in useful features. It was very easy to learn and use and i thought its features and layouts were much better than blog platforms i saw and thus i decided that I should use Blogger because it had better features me to use.
I also used some other online platform to present my work into Blo. I used Slidshare and emaze to present word documents and embedded into blog. It is an easy way to integrate online technologies. I also made some accounts of social apps like (instagram, facebook and twitter ) just to market my product.

In Conclusion, I have found ways to integrate all three aspects, software, hardware and online into my coursework. The implementation of these factors not only helped in designing my product, but also helped vastly for presenting my work on the pre-production and post-production side of the coursework.

Codes and Conventions of a Fashion Magazine

CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF FASHION MAGAZINE

Street style or Casual Fashion
Street wear is a distinctive style of street fashion, rooted in West Coast. It has elements of hip-hop, urban-culture, casual and modern haute couture fashion. Street fashion is generally associated with youth culture, and is most often seen in major urban centers. Most major youth subcultures have had an associated street fashion. Examples include:
Hippies (denim, T-shirts, long hair, flower power and psychedelic imagery, flared trousers)
Teddy Boys (drape jackets, drainpipe trousers, crepe shoes)

Punk fashion (ripped clothing, safety pins, bondage, provocative T-shirt slogans, Mohican hairstyle

After my research on different fashion magazine covers related to my sub gender I have been able to come up with some codes and conventions which are generally seen in most of the fashion(street fashion/casual) magazines. Some of the examples are shown below.
         • Urban culture and Modern look

All of these magazines mostly show urban culture which are  very modern and trendy.

High-key lightening
This lightness and brightness brings a feeling of freshness, cleanliness, happiness and often also youthfulness. In a lot of high-key images, contrast is minimal. They have strong color in places, or directed hard lighting on a portion of a subject, will “pop” beautifully, adding a little bit of an “edge” whilst retaining all the essential mood components of a typical high key image.

Body language
The angles and shots taken for these magazines are basically full shot or sometimes mid shots to show different body gestures. They are generally looking directly into the camera or posing in a very friendly way, to promote the look they are selling

Cover lines and Masthead
In various street Fashion magazines, front cover the masthead are given bold and bright colors in order to contrast or complement with the overall dress of the models or just basically going with the theme each magazine represents.

Themes
What street magazines represents ?
Since they are going with the theme of street fashion which usually consists of trendy and cool looks for the younger generation. They work with preppy look, and over here the main cover model, is not only dressed in such a manner but is also selling the magazine and the new look set out nowadays.

Clothing and Colours scheme
The background Colours are light. They are basically taken outside and shows expensive and luxurious lifestyles.
